Food Shift

Food Shift is a nonprofit organization based in Alameda, California that reduces food waste while addressing food insecurity and creating economic opportunities. Founded in 2012, the organization recovers surplus food from farms, grocery stores, and other sources that would otherwise be discarded, and operates a social enterprise kitchen that serves prepared meals to food-insecure communities while providing job training and culinary apprenticeships to low-income individuals and formerly homeless residents. Through its programs, partnerships with community organizations, and food recovery initiatives, Food Shift works at the intersection of food justice and climate action to create sustainable solutions to systemic food waste and hunger.
