Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is one of the largest food banks in the nation, founded in 1974 to serve Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. The Bing Center, the organization's Peninsula Distribution Center that opened in 1996, distributes nutritious groceries including fresh produce through a network of nonprofit partners across the region, serving more than a quarter million people monthly, with more than half being children and seniors.
