Daystar – Food Distribution Center

Daystar Community Program is a nonprofit organization founded by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in 1978 that serves as a comprehensive social services agency in Cairo, Illinois. Located at 909 Washington Avenue, Daystar operates a food pantry, soup kitchen called The Kitchen Table, mobile food pantry, and outreach programs providing rent assistance, utility help, and counseling to residents across the southernmost counties of Illinois. The organization is known for its annual volunteer programs that bring youth and adults from universities and churches to assist with community repairs and improvements.
