The Center for Empowerment and Justice, NFP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located at 213 N Washington Street in Carbondale, Illinois that has been tax-exempt since 2017. The organization promotes social and economic justice by offering an emergency food pantry, free clothing room, public computer lab, harm reduction services, and assistance for individuals re-entering society after incarceration or rehabilitation. Founded by civil rights attorney Jim Chapman in partnership with community leaders, the Center serves Carbondale and Southern Illinois through direct support services, community education, and advocacy initiatives.
