Care For Real

Care for Real is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1971 by religious leaders including Rev. William Johnson of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement and Rabbi Herman Schaalman of Emanuel Congregation. Based on Chicago’s far North Side with locations in Edgewater and Rogers Park, the organization provides food, clothing, pet food, and referral services to low-income residents, serving more than 1,060 neighbors weekly through on-site food distribution, a free clothes closet, and a pet pantry. The nonprofit distributes over 1.5 million pounds of food annually and relies on volunteer support to strengthen the community and combat food insecurity.
