Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church
About
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish-Shrine is a Roman Catholic Church located at 1101 North 23rd Avenue in Melrose Park, Illinois, serving as both a parish and shrine under the Archdiocese of Chicago. The parish traces its roots to 1894 when a statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel arrived in the community, leading to the construction of a wooden chapel in 1895 and the parish’s official designation in 1903; the current church building was completed in 1908 and designated a diocesan shrine in 2006. Staffed by the Scalabrinian Missionaries (Fathers of St. Charles), the parish serves approximately 1,600 families and offers Mass in English, Spanish, and Italian, while hosting annual spiritual celebrations including a renowned feast day and novena honoring Our Lady of Mount Carmel that draws devotees from across the region.
