Meals from the Heartland

Meals from the Heartland is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization located in West Des Moines that mobilizes volunteers from businesses, schools, churches, and community organizations to package nutritious meals for hungry people in Iowa, across the United States, and around the world. Founded in 2008 following a successful 2007 church-led food packaging event, the organization has grown to engage thousands of volunteers annually who package millions of meals through year-round efforts at the Patty Cownie Packaging Center located at 357 Lincoln Street in West Des Moines. The organization’s mission centers on empowering people to feed starving children while fostering community engagement and volunteer service across all ages and backgrounds.
