Maryland Food Bank
About
The Maryland Food Bank is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization founded in 1979 as the first food bank on the East Coast. Operating from three locations in Baltimore, Salisbury, and Hagerstown, it distributes food through a network of approximately 800 community-based organizations including soup kitchens, pantries, shelters, and schools across Baltimore City and 21 Maryland counties. Beyond food distribution, the organization runs comprehensive programs like FoodWorks, a culinary workforce development initiative, and the Farm to Food Bank Program, which partners with local farms to increase access to nutritious food while addressing both immediate hunger needs and long-term pathways to food security.
