Catholic Charities Dorothy Day Center
About
The Dorothy Day Center, opened by Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 1981, serves individuals experiencing homelessness in downtown Saint Paul by providing emergency shelter, meals, showers, and supportive services including mental health care and medical assistance. The center evolved into the Dorothy Day Place campus, a two-building complex featuring emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing units, and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Saint Paul Opportunity Center, which connects clients to critical daytime services for health, income stability, and housing assistance. This innovative public-private partnership, recognized with multiple awards for its design and community impact, serves as a comprehensive resource addressing homelessness and housing insecurity in the Twin Cities region.
