About
Women’s Advocates is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1972 that pioneered the first shelter for battered women and children in the nation when it opened in 1974 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Located at 588 Grand Avenue, the organization provides emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, mental health therapy, and educational programs to nearly 1,000 women and children annually who have experienced domestic violence. Women’s Advocates also conducts community education and training, youth outreach programs, and advocates for policy changes to break the cycle of domestic violence in Saint Paul and surrounding communities.
