About
Hoċokata Ṫi, located at 2300 Tiwahe Circle in Shakopee, Minnesota, is a cultural center and gathering space operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) to preserve and celebrate Mdewakanton Dakota cultural heritage, language, and history. Opened in 2019, the facility features a state-of-the-art collection facility for cultural artifacts, a theater, activity rooms, pottery studio, and distinctive seven 40-foot tipi structures, earning recognition as a Top 10 Model Native Museum and Cultural Center by the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums. The center’s upper level is open to the public and includes a 3,805-square-foot exhibit titled “Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake,” a library, and gift shop featuring Native-made art and craft items.
