Founded in 1976 by Alfred Waters, the Southwest Missouri Indian Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located at 543 South Scenic Avenue in Springfield, Missouri, dedicated to educating and supporting low-income Native American families in the region. The organization provides essential services including food assistance, clothing, mental health and wellness services, and operates a tribal Youth Enrichment Program that teaches Native culture, survival skills, and leadership to young people. The center works to bring the community together, raise awareness about Native American culture, and address socioeconomic challenges facing Native Americans in Southwest Missouri.
