Sod House Museum

The Sod House Museum, established in 1988 and located at 300 S. Lake Avenue in Gothenburg, Nebraska, is dedicated to preserving the art and history of the sod homes built by pioneers on the Great Plains. The museum features an authentic replica sod house, historical artifacts and photographs from the pioneer era, and distinctive barbed wire sculptures of a buffalo and Native American on horseback. Operated by volunteers, the museum is open seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day and serves as an educational destination celebrating the resilience and ingenuity of early settlers who used prairie sod to construct their homes.
