Food Bank for the Heartland is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1981 and headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, with a mission to eliminate hunger by ensuring consistent access to healthy foods through community partnerships. The organization works with more than 500 network partners including food pantries, schools, churches, and emergency shelters across 93 counties in Nebraska and western Iowa, distributing over 24 million meals annually. In February 2026, the organization opened a new $37 million facility at 84th and L streets in Omaha, nearly doubling its previous capacity to better serve the region’s growing food insecurity needs.
