La Jicarita Food Basket

La Jicarita Food Basket is a nonprofit food pantry established in December 2008 that serves 16 communities in Taos and Río Arriba counties, including Picuris Pueblo. Operating out of the Peñasco Community Center as a project of The S.P.O.T. (Strengthening Pride, Optimism, Trust) for Community Wellness, the food basket provides emergency food boxes containing meat, vegetables, canned goods, bread, and pastries to families in need throughout the Peñasco area. The program sources its food from The Roadrunner Food Bank in cooperation with the Santa Fe Food Depot, supplemented by individual donations and grant funding from organizations including the Presbytery of Santa Fe and local churches.
