The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability

The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability, located at 501 E 13th Street in Silver City, NM, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting food security and sustainability in Grant County. Opened in April 2012, The Commons provides free food pantry services, community meals, and nutrition education while operating community gardens, greenhouses, and a commercial kitchen to advance local food self-sufficiency. The organization, formerly known as The Volunteer Center of Grant County, serves multiple communities throughout Grant County through mobile food pantries, educational programs including the Alimento School Food Partnership, and initiatives like the Grant County Gleaners Group that recovers local produce to combat food insecurity.
