LIC West Nassau Center for Food Assistance & Community Support
About
The LIC West Nassau Center for Food Assistance & Community Support is a free food pantry operated by Long Island Cares, which runs the Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank, and opened in Valley Stream in September 2024 as the organization's ninth location. The center provides emergency food assistance to residents of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, including up to five days' worth of food along with information about community resources such as SNAP, WIC, heating and utility assistance, and employment resources, and features Long Island Cares' Baxter's Pet Pantry for pet food. The pantry was established following increased demand for food assistance during the pandemic and was brought to Valley Stream through collaboration between state leadership and community partners committed to addressing food insecurity in Western Nassau County.
