Chowan Food Pantry

About

The Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry, founded in 1983 by members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food assistance to residents of Chowan County, with a focus on at-risk children and the elderly. Now sponsored by 18 local churches and numerous donors, the organization serves as the primary provider of food assistance in the county, helping more than 300 households and 235 seniors monthly while also operating programs such as Book Bag Buddies, which provides weekend meals to schoolchildren. The pantry is a member agency of the Food Bank of the Albemarle and Feeding America, and operates with support from community donations, grants, and an endowment fund established in 2017 to ensure sustainable service to the nearly 3,000 food-insecure individuals in the community.
