Campus Kitchen At Washington And Lee
About
The Campus Kitchen at Washington and Lee University is a student-led nonprofit initiative founded in October 2006 that combats food insecurity and reduces food waste in Lexington and Rockbridge County. The organization partners with campus dining services and local donors including restaurants and grocery stores to collect surplus food, which it then prepares and delivers as meals to area social service agencies and individuals in need, while also operating a Mobile Food Pantry program and a Backpack Program for local students. Since its inception, the Campus Kitchen has served over 558,000 meals, recovered over 475,000 pounds of food, and provided extensive volunteer and service-learning opportunities to university students engaged in community service.
