About

Founded in 1893 by Joseph Puempel as a boarding house and tavern, Puempel’s Olde Tavern is a historic gathering place in New Glarus, Wisconsin located at 18 6th Ave. Originally serving Swiss immigrants seeking a new life, the tavern has welcomed visitors for over a century and was recognized by American Heritage magazine in 1993 as one of the country’s “most impressive historic survivors.” The establishment serves local beers, fine spirits, and a menu of soups, sandwiches, and cheeses, preserving old-world Swiss tradition while featuring murals painted in 1913 and an original back bar that reflect its authentic heritage and community significance.
