St Matthew Lutheran Church
About
St. Matthew Lutheran Church is a historic congregation located at 313 E Main Street in Palmyra, Wisconsin, established in 1844 as one of the first ten Lutheran churches organized in the state. Originally known as Skoponong by Norwegian settlers, the church was rebuilt in Palmyra in 1937 following a lightning strike in 1936 that destroyed its previous building, with the name officially changed to St. Matthew in 1961. The congregation continues its mission to share the love of Christ Jesus through worship, fellowship, and ministry to the community, including programs like a food pantry that serve local residents.
